Elfball Black Widows team - completed 29th July 2013

Hi All,

Long time no blogging so I thought I'd update you with my recently completed team. The models are from Shadowforge apart from the Naga which is from Impact Miniatures.

I've been using this team as Pro Elves in Bloodbowl, but need to finish a few more line elves before that's completed - I'm at the dangerous stage where I have enough painted to play with so there's a chance the remaing few will not be completed like in many of my other teams... let's hope I can be diciplined enough to 100% finish them.

They're not doing too badly in league play at the moment - I'm on 5 wins and 2 losses and 3rd place. I'll also be taking the team to the Thrudball in August so hopefully I'll get some good games out of them in the tournament setting too!

Spiky's guide to stripping models

Hmm, I wonder with that title if I'll be getting a few extra hits on this blog... Anyway I thought I'd share a step by step guide for how to remove paint. This is especially handy as badly painted models always sell for less on Ebay and stripping the paint is very easy.

This method works equally well with plastic and metal models. I'm not sure if it would work on the Humbrol type enamel paints though, but definately sorts out acrylic paints. I've also used Nitro-Mors for stripping before, Dettol works just as well and is not carcinogenic - Bonus! :-)

You will need:
1) A bottle of Dettol - see the picture below, it's available from any supermarket
2) An old toothbrush
3) A glass jar with screw on lid
4) Rubber gloves (otherwise your hands will smell for a while)

 
Step 1
Pour enough Dettol into a clean jar to cover the model. Stick the model in and pop the lid back on. Leave the model at least 24 hours!

 
Step 2
You'll know that the model is ready to remove because the paint goes all baggy and starts to separate from the miniature. See below for an example:

Step 3
Put your gloves on and fish the model out of the jar. Dip the toothbrush in the jar and use it to scrub the paint from the model. The paint should come off very easily, but you may need to keep dipping the toothbrush in the Dettol to keep it lubricated.

It's important that you don't wash the model in water at this stage otherwise the paint will turn into a sticky mess! Use some more Dettol to rinse the paint from the model

Step 4
Once the paint is away from the model, it can be rinsed under running water, and dried in a bit of kitchen towel. It may be a bit smelly, but otherwise completely ready for painting!

Deadling Cheerleader - Finished 24th May 2011

Hello! Okay so it's been a few months since I last posted... this doesn't mean that I've not been painting, it's just that with upgrading to Windows 7 I lost my easy way of adjusting the colour balance of my photo's so I didn't have anything good to share...

Anyway, here's a Deadling Cheerleader that I've converted and just finished last night. The conversion was very easy, just bending the arms and adding bobs of greenstuff to make the pom-poms...

Gnoll Elfball Team - completed 12th October 2011

I finished my Elfball Gnoll team yesterday! I've not used them in the game yet, but hopefully soon :-)

Elfball Desert Dogs - Finished Feb 2010

Here's another team from my back catalogue :-) This is the 2nd Elfball team I painted, which I originally ordered along with the game itself back in 2008.

I spent less time painting these, but I don't think they're too bad considering.

Elfball Counter Set - Finished September 2011

I finished my Elfball Counter set last week.

The counters in the front row are an idea stolen from my friend Andy. They're based on 25mm hex bases, which are then placed on top of some 30mm lipped hex bases. I stuck some Slater's numbers to the outside of these. The idea is that you can pick up the miniature and turn it so it's facing the correct number in the lower base.

Below that we have some bigger pictures of the Bribe counter, Zlurpee Keg and Babe, I'd completed the Wizard a while back too, but don't think I have photographed him before. Unfortunately he's been written out of the Elfball ruleset however will still be useful when I get around to modifying this set for use in Bloodbowl.

All these models are from Impact except the barrel which came from one of the GW Empire cannon sets.



Valkyrie Elfball Team - Finished 25th August

Here's the most recent thing I've finished painting. This is my Valkyrie team, called the Heimskringla Harriers. The models are sold by Impact Miniatures. I've been using this team in our local Elfball league, and they've been good fun to use. I also came 2nd place with them in the Bedford 2011 Elfball tournament!

At some point, I intend to add 2 Norse Werewolves, another Thrower and some more Midfielders in order to use this as either a Norse or Amazon team for Bloodbowl

Divine Wind Elfball Team

Finally I've worked out how to get the white balance right on some of the pictures I took a while back!
This is my Divine Wind team for Elfball, which go by the team name of 'Circular Logic. The models are from Impact Miniatures
This is the first Elfball team I painted, starting back in July 2008 and finishing April 2010.
